Puzzling pumpkin patch

It was a crisp fall morning at the local farm, where the scent of hay and pumpkins filled the air. Badger and Yote set off into the pumpkin patch, the sun warming the dewy fields as they carried baskets for collecting gourds, sunflowers, and sweet corn. The patch was bustling with the sounds of rustling leaves and distant laughter from other visitors picking the season’s harvest.

With every step, Yote marveled at the patch’s variety — orange pumpkins glistened like treasures hidden among thick vines, colorful gourds peeked out from beneath green leaves, and towering sunflowers swayed proudly in the autumn breeze. Badger, as always, had his mind elsewhere — on puzzles.

As they reached the far end of the patch, they sat down under a tree, surrounded by pumpkins and flowers. Badger leaned back on the basket full of corn and asked, “Yote, ever wonder how groups of animals have such strange names?”

Yote gave a thoughtful nod, “A pride of lions, right? And a flock of birds?”

Badger grinned. “Exactly. But there are some really unusual ones. Let’s make a game of it.”

The two friends spent the afternoon tossing ideas back and forth, testing each other on some of the oddest names for animal groups they could remember. “Here’s one for you, Yote,” Badger challenged. “What animals belong to these groups?”

Match the animal to the group name below:

  1. Crash

  2. Exaltation

  3. Mob

  4. Murder

  5. Parliament

  6. Pod

  7. Sounder
