Highlands Cattle Check

Badger and Yote rode side by side, their horses’ hooves crunching softly over the frosty highland grass. The morning sun was low in the sky, casting a golden light across the rolling hills. Today’s task was one they both enjoyed—counting heads of cattle, checking on the young calves, and making sure everything was in order before winter fully settled in.

As they crested a hill, the view opened up to reveal their herd grazing peacefully, calves sticking close to their mothers. Badger took out his little notebook, making quick marks for each head they counted. Yote, riding alongside him, watched the calves with a grin. “They’re growing fast, aren’t they? Won’t be long before they’re ready for winter themselves.”

Badger nodded, tucking the notebook away. “Good to know we’ve got a strong group this year.” He glanced over at Yote, a mischievous glint in his eye. “Speaking of strong, got a riddle for you, partner.”

Yote perked up, adjusting his hat. “Let’s hear it.”

Badger leaned back in the saddle, enjoying the moment.

“How could a cowboy ride into town on Friday, stay two days, and ride out on Friday?”

Yote scratched his chin, thinking it over as they continued down the trail. A smile spread across his face as he realized the answer.

With the herd accounted for and the riddle solved, they rode on, both enjoying the quiet beauty of the highlands and the satisfaction of a job well done.

Do you know the answer to this riddle?
